The information and promotional event for the “Watch Design Competition,” organized in collaboration between the Technology Transfer Office Coordination Unit at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, took place on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Conference Hall of Turhal Vocational School with a high turnout. During the event, details of the competition—organized to raise public awareness in the field of design, promote the use of industrial property rights, and encourage young talents to develop original ideas—were shared. Officials emphasized the importance of university students producing innovative projects and the contributions this would make to both the academic and commercial ecosystems.
It was noted that the competition, with the 2026 theme set as “Watch Design,” was organized in three separate categories—high school students, university students (associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students), and open participants—to appeal to a broad audience.
During the presentation on the competition rules and technical details, it was stated that participants are required to create a holistic and original concept. It was stated that, as part of the competition, participants must submit a set consisting of three separate designs: 1 men’s wristwatch, 1 women’s wristwatch, and 1 desk clock. It was noted that the evaluations of the designs will be based on fundamental criteria such as originality, aesthetics, functionality, and, most importantly, commercialization potential.
The event concluded with experts answering students’ questions regarding the competition schedule, application processes, and the protection of intellectual property rights. The aspiring young designers noted that the event provided them with comprehensive and practical guidance on how to transform their ideas into value-added products. We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to hosting this valuable event at our school, which has made a significant contribution to our students’ vision and professional development, particularly Lecturer Onur Dal, as well as all the institutions, organizations, and officials who coordinated the event.
